- Flower of the month: Freesia
Freesia
The freesia has sparkling colours and leaves a subtle hint of perfume around the home. The fragrance takes you back in time and often evokes memories. Freesias are frequently used as an extra flower in a (bridal) bouquet or arrangement. We would like to show you a different side to the freesia, and give it the starring role. Finally we are also asking you to ‘freestyle’ with freesias and thereby inspire other florists.
Fragrant Freesia
The various colours of freesias have different fragrances, from spicy peppery to beautifully sweet. It’s no surprise that its a popular fragrance in toiletries and perfumes. It’s lovely coming home when you are enthusiastically welcomed by the fabulous scent of this long-lasting ornamental flower! Which colour’s fragrance is your favourite?
Colours and shapes of the freesia
The freesia’s tuber forms small tubers under the soil, which are called beads. These beads grow into a full tuber and ultimately into a comb with flowers. And the freesia even carries on growing merrily in the vase! Freesias can be single-flowered or double-flowered and come in white, yellow, orange, red, blue, pink and purple, but can also be bicoloured or multicoloured.
Did you know that a freesia’s floral display is called a comb because of all the buds which are lined up so neatly?
Fabulous Freesia
