Employees of the month: Magda and Katarzyna
One of our export countries is Poland. Our colleagues Magdalena and Katarzyna represent Heemskerk Flowers there. There were once neighbours, now they are co-workers. They both come from Poland and therefore speak the language fluently. They are the important link between the florists in Poland and the head office in the Netherlands. Meet this top team, who will do anything for their customers.

Drivers' League winners
In September, October and November 2022 Mercedes-Benz again organised the Fleetboard Drivers’ League. The driving behaviour of several thousand truckers in the Netherlands was monitored by Fleetboard, Daimler Truck’s telematics system. A number of our drivers took part in this competition without realising it, and won prizes!

Employee interview: Jolande, bouquet department
This month we’re chatting to Jolande: a cheerful lady who has worked in various departments, and now feels right at home in the bouquet workshop. She creates beautiful bouquets four days a week. Along with her husband, who is often away at sea, she also manages a household with two children, a dog and a cat. Jolande thinks this is easy to do when working at Heemskerk Flowers. Employee interview: Piet van der Vijver
A sociable, versatile, hard worker who is always willing to help - that’s how many people would describe Piet van der Vijver. Our colleague, who is 58, has now been working at Heemskerk Flowers for four years, but has been involved in similar work for nearly 25 years. Piet van der Vijver joined as a result of the acquisition of Fleurs vd Eijkel, and he’s very happy at Heemskerk Flowers.

Huig Ouwehand has been working at Heemskerk Flowers for nine years, and has occupied various roles during this time. Huig mainly works in logistics, but can really be deployed anywhere within the processing path. If you order flowers or plants from us, Huig is almost guaranteed to have handled them!

Willem Barnhoorn has not been working at Heemskerk Flowers for long, but he is already proving to be an asset to the sales team in France. As an account manager for France he deals with customers in the south-east of the country, and strives to build and maintain good relationships.

With his phone virtually cemented to his ear, René is constantly busy sorting things out. As a general planner, he has an overview of all the departments that ensure that orders reach the customers correctly and on time.

In the invoicing department the telephone rings constantly, the e-mails pour in and it’s (almost) never quiet. And it is that in particular that Alex Pret, head of invoicing, loves! The frenetic activity and constantly challenge are what have kept him doing this job at Heemskerk Flowers for over 22 years. We talked to him about ‘caring about the business’ and his activities.

Employee interview: Richard, distribution department
Richard van der Meij has been working at Heemskerk Flowers for 20 years. Right from the start he is responsible for distributing inbound goods. You can therefore often see him driving through the building with a train of carts behind him. We talked to him about his work, and what makes it so much fun that he’s stuck with it for all this time.

Employee interview: Corine, marketing
Corine van Egmond has been responsible for the marketing and communication activities at Heemskerk Flowers for the past four years. Corine grew up with flowers. As a young girl she wandered through her grandad’s greenhouses, and later she travelled to Germany with her husband in order to sell flowers directly to florists from a truck. Her affinity with both flowers and plants meant it was very logical that she would end up working in the floriculture sector. We talked to her about her work and passion.

Employee interview: Hennie, receptioniste
When you enter our building the first person you encounter is our receptionist, Hennie Haasnoot. Hennies blood runs yellow and blue, as we say here, because she has been working at Heemskerk Flowers for 19 years. She started off wrapping the flowers, and soon took over the reception desk. She tells us what her work involves, and what makes it so enjoyable that she has continued to do it for such a long time.

Employee interview: Monique, bouquet designer
Monique Van der Meij worked in our bouquet workshop for many years. Not long ago she made the move to join our decoration Partner with Passion Broekhof as a New Product Development executive, where she contributes to the design of bouquet sleeves, amongst other things. She recently also rejoined us as a Bouquet Designer. We talked` to her about what she does as a Bouquet Designer for Heekskerk Flowers, and why the combination of these two jobs is so beneficial for both parties.

Dick van Bommel has been working at Heemskerk Flowers for 34 years. By now his blood is almost yellow and blue, as they used to say when you had worked at the company for a long time. Dick started as a mobile wholesale driver serving the UK in 1987, and after a number of years he moved on to expand and supervise the mobile wholesale business.

Conversation with: Bert and Roos Heemskerk
In December of this year our company well be marking its 60th birthday - a cause for celebration! 2021 is therefore all about this anniversary. Throughout the year we will be looking back with you over the past 60 years, in which a lot of remarkable things have happened. For example, did you know that Heemskerk Flowers was the first flower wholesaler to start selling flowers and plants online? Or that our founder, Bert Heemskerk senior, also used to dye flowers himself?

Employee interview: Mike, head buyer cut flowers
Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, the world has been turned upside down. Images of the flowers that were thrown away are still imprinted on our memories. Fortunately, flower and plant sales started up again fairly quickly and we are once more committed to offer our customers a beautiful range of prodcuts. Nevertheless, not everything is as it was before the corona crisis broke out. Much has changed, for you and for us. There is a shortage of some products and prices are on average higher than normal in this period. What is the reason for this? I discuss this with colleague Mike van den Eijkel, our head buyer of cut flowers.

Employee interview: Bertus, niche buyer
Bertus Heemskerk is working at Heemskerk Flowers as a buyer of niche products for 22 years. He is constantly looking for new products and new suppliers. He has been sourcing dried and prepared flowers for years, which means that he has lots of experience in this product group. I’m very keen to discover what he has learnt, and so I’m dropping by today to find out all the ins & outs.

The flower shop Jan van Paridon was taken over by Heemskerk Flowers in Rijnsburg in September 2019. Owner Jan van Paridon took over six employees. One of these employees is Cees Heemskerk. Account manager and sun worshiper for 14 years.
